【レースリポート】Terengganu Pro-Asia Cycling Team：ツール・ド・ブルネイ

ツール・ド・ブルネイの第2ステージで、テレンガヌ・プロ・アジアのアヌアールが優勝を果たしたことで、他のTSGライダーたちのモチベーションも非常に高まり、チームに新たなる成功をもたらそうと士気が高まっていた。

第3ステージ、ツトン地区を走る、短く高速の86キロステージで、TSGのハリフ・サレーには最適のコースとなった。ペロトンは平均時速45キロで86キロコースをカバー。福島はゴールまで粘り強いアタックをしかけ、他チームは必死にラインを追いかけることになった。これによってアヌアール、マナン、ハリフが1位、2位を獲得するのに繋げ、福島自身も4位フィニッシュ。表彰台の総なめは僅かに及ばなかった。

第4ステージ、マレーシア　ロード界の王者に輝いたTSGのマット・アミンはここ数日は家業に携わっており、チームメイトや自国の選手たちが栄冠を吸い上げる様子を見ていた。しかしこの日の彼は逃げ切りを果たし、自身がマレーシア　ライダーの中で屈指の一人であること、また数ヶ月前のマレーシアチャンピオンの栄冠は単なるまぐれではなかったことを証明する決心でいた。マット・アミンは、共に逃げで競っていたフィリピンからの選手を抜き、ペロトンには11秒の差をつけて、立派にステージ優勝を果たした。ハリフは3番手で何度もスプリントを仕掛け、グリーンポイントジャージを巡る戦いに新たにポイントを追加した。

第5ステージ、このレースのゴールは当初から、ステージ優勝をすることであったが、福島にとっては総合順位トップ3でゴールし、チームのために、また自身の五輪資格を得るためにUCIポイントを稼ぐことにあった。マレーシアチームのアディク・オスマンは第1ステージからイエロージャージを身に纏い、マレーシアチーム自体もとてもいい仕事をして3日間ジャージを死守した。福島は最後の数日間は36秒遅れをとり7位に位置していた。トップ6名のライダーたちはそれぞれ別のチームの所属であったので、6ライダー及び6チームを追い抜くことは不可能に思えた。しかし福島にとっては不可能ではなかった。彼はTPTイランのラミン、元TSGのタイ人ライダーPhuchong Sai-Udomsin（TSGとしてはタイ自転車協会との対立ゆえ、Phuchongを競合相手にするわけにはいかなかった。）らと共に抜け出た。3人の強豪は追い上げ集団に2分の差をつけてフィニッシュ。ラミンがスプリント優勝を獲得したものの、福島は総合でイエロージャージを獲得した。

ハリフもまた総合得点でグリーンジャージを獲得。これで、今年のツール・ド・ブルネイではTSGに通算2つのジャージ、3つのステージ優勝、6度の表彰台フィニッシュをもたらした。

After the success of Anuar winning the stage 2 of Tour de Brunei for Terengganu Pro-Asia, other TSG riders were extremely motivated to continue deliver success for the team.

Stage 3, short and fast 86km stage in Tutong suited TSG's Hariff Salleh perfectly. Peloton covered the 86km course with average speed of nearly 45kph. Shinichi launched a viscous attack before the finish, forced other teams to chase hard to the line which delivered Anuar Manan and Hariff perfectly to take 1st and 2nd on the sprint. While Shinichi still finished 4th, just missed a clean sweep of the podium.

Stage 4, newly crowned Malaysian road champion Mat Amin of TSG has been doing a lot domestique work in the last few days and watching his teammates and country men soaking up the glory. Today he was determined to break away and show that he is one of the best Malaysia riders and national champion victory a few months ago was no fluke. Mat Amin won the stage in style ahead of his break away companion from Philippines and 11 seconds ahead of the peloton, while Harrif takes the bunch sprint in 3rd place and added more points to his green point jersey competition.

Stage 5, the goal of this race from the very beginning was to win stages but also for Shinichi to finish top 3 on the GC to take more UCI points for the team and for his Olympic qualification for 2012. Adiq Othman of Malaysia team has wore the yellow jersey from Stage 1, the Malaysia national team also done a very good job defending the jersey for 3 days. Shinichi has been sitting in 7th overall 36 seconds behind for last few days, the top 6 riders were all from 6 different teams, this seems to be an impossible task to leap frog 6 riders and 6 teams....But impossible maybe for normal riders but not Shinichi. Shinichi broke away with Ramin of TPT Iran and formal TSG's Thailand rider Phuchong Sai-Udomsin (TSG had to remove Phuchong from rest of this year's competitions due to conflict with Thai Cycling Association). 3 strong men finished 2 minutes ahead of the chasing peloton, Ramin took the sprint win but Shinichi won the overall yellow jersey.

Hariff also won the overall points green jersey, which gave TSG 2 overall jerseys, 3 stage victories, 6 podium finishes in this year's Tour de Brunei.
